about the Artist…Widad Al Orfali
Born in 1929 and growing up within a progressive love household;
Widad Al Orfali’s rich talent got nurtured from an early age. A
vibrant and creative child, she welcomed music as her first
foray into the artistic world. At the tender age of six she
began learning the piano. This was just the beginning of a
wonderful journey, spanning over seven decades seeing her
explore, experiment and enrich the art with her extraordinary
contribution. Driven by endless energy and zealous passion,
Widad made music and painting her true soul mates. Mentored by
some of the best music teachers, she remained a student of music
for nearly 60 years that included piano lessons from Behjat Dada
Al Awad and Aldo Kani and the Oud from master instructor Salah
Al Qadhi and Ali Al Imam.
A graduate from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts, Widad honed
her talent under pioneer Iraqi artist Khalid Al Jadir. She
embraced the style of ‘Realism’ to express her love for the
canvas. With numerous exhibitions around the world including Iraq, Jordan, Europe and
USA, she subsequently won numerous accolades for her marvelous
work.
A visit to Andalusia in Spain was a major turning point in
Widad’s artistic life. Deeply fascinated by the detailed and
decorative manifestations of ancient Andalusian culture, she
could not resist changing from realism art to a new world of ‘Expression’ and her work
became an unusual, glorious celebration of her own oriental
“Dream Cities”. They were her ‘Fantasia’ that portrayed the
beauty of domes, arches, decorations and colours; the timeless
spirit of Andalusia entwined with her love for beloved Iraq,
subsequently rhythms of Arabia is born.

Arabia’, It an unbelievable story and holds testimony to her
iconic ‘Dream Cities’ through her other love - Music. It is a
